Calgary Police Half Marathon – Recap

The Calgary Police Foundation extends its sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the CPS Half Marathon Committee for choosing the Foundation as its charity of choice for the past number of years.  By doing so, the event has raised over $100,000 – serving 9,000 vulnerable and at-risk youth in our city each year.

The Foundation is looking very forward to its continued partnership in 2020 when it will be executing a robust pledge program.  This will allow runners and walkers to continue raising funds for kids, be eligible for fun incentive prizes, and receive a tax receipt in doing so.  Thank you, Calgary Police Half Marathon Committee.  CPF simply cannot raise these important funds without your commitment to executing a professional, fun, and extremely well-organized event.

And as for this year’s event? Well…

Scheduled to run on the morning of Sunday, April 28th, Mother Nature had other plans. Her spring blizzard slammed high winds and mountains of snow at Calgary and area just hours before the start gun. Though the Calgary Police Half Marathon Committee was still hopeful late Saturday afternoon, in the end it had to concede to Nature’s whims and cancel the race for the safety of all participants.

As in the staging of any major event, huge efforts had been put in by the committee, sponsors, partners, suppliers, volunteers, and over 1,400 registrants. An army of volunteers had rearranged their weekend to help, with many of them braving the elements to come out and help tear it all down again.

The Calgary Police Foundation would like to thank the many wonderful pledge program fundraisers and their supporters who helped raise $22,650 for CPF funded programs.
